The main objective of this course was to be able to compare appropriate activities for senior center attendees, senior day care attendees, retirement community residents, and nursing home residents.

We had to demonstrate an understanding of and ability to utilize a variety of assistive techniques, adaptive devices and equipment, and program adaptations to assist individuals with illnesses and disabilities to achieve maximum independence by being able to lead and provide instruction in a variety of types of recreational activities for elders. While being able to identify techniques for teaching activity skills to groups composed of impaired and high functioning elders.

Our main project for this course was to simply plan, prepare and implement and activity at Townsend House Assisted Living Facility. I had one partner and we decided to play the game "What's That Tune?" Prior to implementing the activity we comprised a list of music applicable to the elder's generation. We gathered pens, paper, and clips of music and we were ready for action.

All-in-all I was thoroughly surprised by how many participants and how well they ALL did with this activity. Most definitely brought smiles to their faces and ours as well! :)
